What's the match?

Kolkata Knight Riders take on Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 Indian Premier League.

When is it taking place?

The match is scheduled to start at 7.30pm local time (3pm BST) on Sunday, April 23.

Where is the match being played?

The match will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Who's got form?

This sees two teams at opposite ends of the table go up against one another, with CSK sitting in third and KKR are down in eighth.

KKR are in a rotten run of form. After a dominant 81-run win in their first match against RCB and an improbable three-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in their second, their luck ran out and they're now on a three-match losing streak.

Chennai Super Kings' form could not be more different to their opponents, with four wins from their last five seeing them sit third. Net run rate is all that separates them from top spot.

Devon Conway starred in their previous fixture, scoring an unbeaten 77 to see the side home in a chase of 135 against Sunrisers after Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets.

What's the team news?

CSK are still without superstar Ben Stokes for at least another week after he suffered another injury setback, according to coach Stephen Fleming.

Deepak Chahar has stepped up his rehabilitation by returning to bowling in the nets, but he will undergo further scans on his hamstring before it is decided whether he will play any part in the tournament.

There are no fresh injury concerns for KKR.

What's the key matchup?

Andre Russell was the bright spark on an otherwise dark day for Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous outing against Delhi Capitals, with the West Indian scoring 38 runs from 31 deliveries, including four sixes. The rest of the side managed just two maximums between them.

However, 2023 has proven to be an otherwise lean season for the allrounder, with just 98 runs and three wickets in six matches.

This fixtures promises to see an interesting clash between two allrounders, with Russell's record against CSK's Ravindra Jadeja making for compelling record, and vice versa.

Jadeja has bowled to Russell in ten separate T20 innings and has dismissed him on five occasions. However, Russell likes taking on the spinner, striking at 143.47 from the 43 balls he has faced against Jadeja.

It's not just Jadeja's bowling that Russell has taken a liking to, with the fast bowler dismissing his spin-bowling counterpart in two of the four innings he has bowled to him, as well as conceding just 12 runs from 16 deliveries.

Jadeja's ability with bat and ball is well known, with the same being true of Russell. They both can change a game in their side's favour, which may just be backed up further if they can get the better of each other in this match.
