Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2022 Indian Premier League after sustaining an injury to a muscle in his left forearm.

Yadav, who has played seven ODIs and 14 T20Is for India since making his debut last year, was injured during Mumbai’s clash with Gujarat Titans on May 6. In that match, he scored 13 from 11 balls in a five-run win for his team – just their second victory of the season.

In a statement, the club said: "Suryakumar Yadav has sustained a muscle strain on the left forearm and has been ruled out of the season. He has been advised to rest in consultation with the BCCI medical team."

This is the second time Yadav has been missing due to an injury in recent months. Before the start of the IPL, he spent three weeks recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after suffering a hairline fracture on his thumb on February 22 in the final match of the T20I series against West Indies.

He missed the first week of the IPL as a result of this injury and only returned to Mumbai's XI for their third game of the season, appearing against KKR on April 6.

Despite only playing eight of his side's 11 games, he is Mumbai's second-highest run-scorer, contributing 303 runs at 43.28 and scoring with a strike rate of 145.67. His absence compounds a poor season for the five-time champions, who have won just two of their 11 games.

Yadav is now in a race to be fit for India's T20I seriest against South Africa, which is scheduled to start on June 9.
