Delhi Capitals have the power... but do they have the pace?

With David Warner, Privthi Shaw, Mitch Marsh and Rishabh Pant stacking up the runs in the top four, there should be a sizeable buffer for the bowling unit to work with

Delhi Capitals followed up an impressive day one at the IPL auction with a solid day two as a squad was assembled which looks capable of challenging.

Always busy with the paddle - Delhi got themselves involved in bidding for more players than any other side over the course of the auction, including failed attempts at various times for previous key figures at the franchise, including Kagiso Rabada and Ravichandran Ashwin - the Capitals have mixed a fantastic top four with a balanced bowling unit.

The Capitals are certainly well set in the left-arm seam department, with Chetan Sakariya, Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, but whether or not they can get full seasons out of Rahman and another of their overseas pacers - Anrich Nortje - remains to be seen.

David Warner will open the batting for Delhi Capitals

Lungi Ngidi, the second South African quick in the squad, was picked up late in the day for a base-price 50 lakh (£48,000).

That said, with David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitch Marsh and Rishabh Pant stacking up the runs in the top four, there should be a sizeable buffer for the bowling unit to work with.

Rovman Powell - the West Indies allrounder who took fondly to England in the recent T20 series between the teams - is an intriguing signing who could do a huge amount of damage late in the innings.

And spin is well catered for thanks to Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.

Meanwhile, Capitals will be the home of the highly talented India Under 19 captain Yash Dhull.

"I am really excited to join the team and I am ready to give my best."

Delhi Capitals squad: Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, David Warner, Mitch Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin Hebbar, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, KS Bharat, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Syed Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, Pravin Dubey, Lungi Ngidi, Tim Seifert, Vicky Ostwal
