Andre Russell shines as KKR crush Sunrisers Hyderabad

Andre Russell rolled back the years with a player of the match-winning performance to help Kolkata Knight Riders crush Sunrisers Hyderabad by 54 runs in Pune.

Batting at No.7, the veteran West Indian blasted 49 runs from 28 balls to propel his side from 94 for 5 to 177 for 6. He knock included three fours and four sixes and productive stands alongside Sam Billings (63 runs off 44 balls) and Sunil Narine (20 runs off seven balls).

Billings scored a handy 29-ball 34 at No.5 while Ajinkya Rahane (28) and Nitish Rana (26) were also among the runs for KKR.

Umran Malik was the standout bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad, picking up 3 for 33.

Russell also impressed with the ball, taking 3 for 22

During Sunrisers’ chase of 177, Russell was immediately among the wickets, removing Kane Williamson for nine in the sixth over.

Tim Southee dismissed Rahul Tripathi caught and bowled in the ninth over before two quick wickets from Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine reduced Sunrisers to 76 for 4 midway through the 13th over.

Aiden Markram battled on, scoring 32 runs from 25 balls, but when he was removed by Umesh Yadav in the 15th, it triggered a collapse which saw his side slip from 99 for 4 to 113 for 8 and eventually close on a disappointing 123 for 8.

Russell picked up two of the wickets to fall during the collapse to finish with figures of 3 for 22 from his four overs while Yadav (1 for 19) and Southee (2 for 23) also impressed.
