What is it?

India, fresh off the back of an ODI series victory over England, head to the Caribbean to contest three 50-over matches against West Indies.

Where is it?

All three matches in the series will take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The 25,000-capacity Queen's Park Oval will host its first internationals since India's last visit to the Caribbean in 2019.

When is it?

The series will be contested over the space of five days, with the opening match slated to start on Friday July 22. The remaining matches will take place on on Sunday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 27, and all three are scheduled to start at 2:30pm BST.

Head to head

West Indies and India have contested a mammoth 136 matches in the ODI format, with honours just about even. West Indies have come out victorious on 63 occasions, while India have won 67 of the fixtures. Two matches have ended in a tie, while four have seen no result.

In recent times, India have won seven of their last nine ODI matches against West Indies, a run stretching back to August 2019. India are unbeaten in ODI matches in the Caribbean since a singular loss in a 3-1 series victory back in 2017.

What's on the line?

West Indies and India couldn't come into this game in more contrasting form.

The home side have won just four of their 15 ODI matches this year, and are coming off a disappointing 3-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh. Their only wins came against two sides ranked outside the top 10 in the ICC's ODI rankings in Ireland and Netherlands.

India's ODI side came away from England with a 2-1 series win over the No.2-ranked ODI side in the world. So confident in their white-ball talent, India have rested their veterans ahead of their tour to the Caribbean, and will be hoping fringe players like Sanju Samson can stake a claim to their 50-over side.

These three fixtures are not a part of the ICC World Cup Super League, and thus afford both sides to opportunity to experiment with their squads. West Indies, however, convincingly lost 3-0 in the ODI leg of their tour to India in February, and will be out make a better account of themselves on home soil.

Who's involved?

Allrounder Jason Holder returns for West Indies, having been rested for their series loss against Bangladesh. The 30-year-old has featured in 127 ODI matches for West Indies, and has amassed more than 2,000 runs and 146 wickets in the format.

Romario Shepherd, who went wicketless in all three matches against Bangladesh, has been named as a reserve player for this series, while fellow fast bowler Anderson Phillip has been left out entirely. Nicholas Pooran will lead the side out as West Indies white-ball captain.

India are out to prove they can beat West Indies without their stars, but their squad still looks mighty strong. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami are all rested for the series while KL Rahul is still out after undergoing surgery for a hernia.

Among those coming in are Shubman Gill, who features for the first time since December 2020, and Sanju Samson, who has one ODI cap to his name. Raturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan and Deepak Hooda all come into the squad having impressed in this year's IPL.

In the absence of designated captain Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan will skipper India's ODI side for the second series, having taken charge for the white-ball tour to Sri Lanka last summer, and Ravindra Jadeja will be vice-captain.

What's the weather like?

This series is being played in the height of summer in the Caribbean, so of course it's going to be hot. There is a slight chance of rain at the start of the day for the opening two matches, but bright sunshine and 30-degree temperatures should be the order of the day throughout this series.

In India, the series will be broadcast on DD Sports. Fans can also stream the matches via the Fan Code app.
