Pakistan have named their ODI and T20I squads for the white-ball leg of their series against Australia.

Alongside the usual names are uncapped duo Asif Afridi and Mohammad Haris, who have earned call-ups to the national side off the back of their performances on the domestic circuit.

35-year-old Afridi, a bowling allrounder, took eight wickets in five matches for Multan Sultans in the 2022 Pakistan Super League and has picked up a further eight wickets for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan Cup. He also boasts an impressive economy in the 50-over competition, conceding just 4.39 runs per over.

Wicketkeeper-batter Haris scored 166 runs at a strike rate of 186.5 for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL, identifying himself as an explosive opening batter. The 20-year-old has also scored 219 runs at 43.80 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pakistan Cup.

Babar Azam will once again lead Pakistan in both formats, with Shadab Khan serving as his vice-captain.

Mohammad Nawaz, who was ruled out of the Test series through injury, has been included in both squads while Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Shafique and Imam-Ul-Haq are only in the ODI squad.

Chairman of selectors, Muhammad Wasim, said: "I want to congratulate Asif and Haris on their inclusions in squads for the Australia series. This is a reward for their hard work and consistent performances in the domestic circuit. Their selections are also a message for all domestic players that their performances are being followed and whenever an opportunity arises, they will be rewarded with a national team call-up.

"Australia are an equally outstanding team in the shorter formats of the game and, as such, we have decided to go with the best available and most experienced players. The four white-ball matches have significant context as the 50-over games count towards the 2023 World Cup qualification and the 20-over will be a repeat of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final."

The two sides are scheduled to play three ODIs between March 29-April 2 and a one-off T20I on April 5. All four matches will take place in Rawalpindi.
