Shaheen Shah Afridi has been fined after a code of conduct breach during Pakistan’s T20I victory over Bangladesh on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the third over of Bangladesh’s innings in the second match in the series, with the left-arm seamer fielding the ball in his follow-through and throwing it at Afif Hossain, the batter.

Hossain was struck on the foot while in his crease and not attempting a run, with the offence deemed to be a Level One breach of Article 2.9 in the ICC code of conduct.

He was fined 15 per cent of his match fee and had one demerit point added to his disciplinary record. When a player reaches four or more demerit points within a two-year period, they are converted into suspension points and the player is banned. That, however, was Afridi’s first misdemeanour in the last two years.

Afridi admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, while he was seen after the game approaching Hossain to apologise in person. Earlier, he had taken the wickets of Saif Hassan and Nurul Hasan in a straightforward victory for Pakistan.

Bangladesh hit just eight fours and a six in their 20 overs, with the visitors winning comfortably thanks to a half century from Fakhar Zaman in reply.
