The Cricketer runs the rule over the individual performances of both sets of players during the second ODI between India and England in Pune
India v England: Talking points
Rohit Sharma (25): Looked in fine touch before clipping a leg-side half-volley to short fine leg – a horrible way to go 4
Shikhar Dhawan (4): Worked over by Reece Topley and looked uncomfortable throughout – echoes of his struggles on India’s last Test tour against Sam Curran’s left-arm swing 2
Virat Kohli (66): Another half century for India’s captain after being dropped by Buttler – Kohli is without an international hundred in 16 months though… 7
KL Rahul (108): A fine player, whose bout of poor form was never likely to last. Few look better at the crease when playing like this 9
Rishabh Pant (77): Extraordinary knock and all the more ridiculous that he was left out of the first ODI 8
Hardik Pandya (35): Missed out with the bat in the first ODI but still one of the game’s foremost finishers – England’s seamers came in for significant punishment 7
Krunal Pandya (12* & 0-72): A hero of India’s win on Tuesday but taken down today, travelling at 12 runs per over 2
Shardul Thakur (0-54): Wicketless and expensive as England’s batsmen wreaked havoc 3
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-63): Got Stokes with a surprise bouncer but otherwise England played India’s premier seamer without alarm 4
Kuldeep Yadav (0-84): Treated ruthlessly by England’s six-hitters; one over against Stokes was particularly brutal 2
Prasidh Krishna (2-58): The pick of India’s bowlers, taking the wickets of Bairstow and Buttler, but otherwise expensive 5

KL Rahul has returned to form after a poor T20I series
Jason Roy (55): Looked a million dollars in reaching his first fifty since the World Cup semi-final – another brilliant partnership with Bairstow, who ultimately sold him down the river 8
Jonny Bairstow (124): Phenomenal knock from a man in fabulous form. One particular sliced driver over cover was his own highlight. In the discussion around England’s greatest white-ball cricketer 9.5
Ben Stokes (0-42 & 99): Expensive with the ball but extraordinary with the bat, smiting 10 sixes in a 52-ball innings that defied description at times 9.5
Dawid Malan (16*): At one stage, it looked like he might not even get in. Knocked off the runs with a calm ahead after England’s brief wobble 5
Jos Buttler (0): A poor day for England’s stand-in captain, continuing a barren run with the bat in ODIs, while dropping two chances with the gloves 2
Liam Livingstone (27*): In for his ODI debut and was not overawed, hitting Kumar for two sixes in an over and appearing to play the same game that has had success in domestic and franchise cricket 6
Moeen Ali (0-47): In the context of the game, a terrific effort to concede just one boundary in a 10-over spell – offered Buttler some vital control 7
Sam Curran (1-47): Good with the new ball but expensively at the death, though he wasn’t the only one 4
Tom Curran (2-83): Three wickets in 10 ODIs for the seamer, whose figures were the ninth-most expensive for England in an ODI 3
Adil Rashid (1-65): Had to dismiss Kohli twice due to Buttler’s drop but got his man in the end. India played him well in the main 5
Reece Topley (2-50): Given the carnage around him, a very creditable performance from the left-armer, who bowled nicely 7
