Essex's Anthony McGrath, Alan Richardson of Worcestershire and Somerset coach Paul Tweddle will be among England's backroom team for the five-match T20 series against West Indies later this month.

McGrath, a County Championship and T20 Blast-winning coach at Chelmsford, and Richardson were part of the set-up for the Pakistan one-day internationals last summer after a Covid outbreak.

They will operate as batting and pace bowling coaches respectively, while Tweddle is the fielding and wicketkeeping lead and joins the team for the first time.

The ECB held an open recruitment process for the roles, with much of the first-choice coaching team including Chris Silverwood, Graham Thorpe and Jon Lewis in Australia for the Ashes.

The West Indies T20s in Barbados on January 22, 23, 26, 29 and 30 start just four days after the scheduled fifth day of the final Test in Hobart.

So as well as an almost-entirely new playing party - Sam Billings will join up at the earliest available opportunity after being added to the Ashes squad - a fresh coaching group was also required.

Head coach Silverwood, who over the weekend was cleared to re-join the squad following a period in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, was already skipping the series, with Paul Collingwood installed at the helm.

Marcus Trescothick had also been confirmed as an assistant coach for the tour.

The support staff and players, minus Billings, will fly to Barbados on Saturday (January 15).
