David Warner has been pulled out of the second India-Australia Test after failing a concussion assessment.

The left-handed opener was struck on the helmet by Mohammed Siraj on the opening morning of day one in Delhi.

Warner received treatment for an elbow blow suffered earlier in Siraj's spell but did not appear to undergo a concussion test at the time.

He lasted 44 deliveries before edging Mohammed Shami to KS Bharat for 15.

Having not taken to the field when India's first innings began later in the day, an evening evaluation has led to him being pulled from the Test.

Matthew Renshaw, dropped from the side to allow Travis Head to return, has been added to the team as his concussion replacement, as per ICC rules.

The substitution was approved following a submission to match referee Andy Pycroft before the resumption of play. Concussion substitutes have been permitted in international cricket since August 2019.

It now remains to be seen whether Warner can recover in time for the third Test at Indore starting on March 1.

What follows is a graduated return to action, in line with Cricket Australia protocols, which will require the 36-year-old to pass several steps to prove his fitness.
