The BCCI have issued an update on Rishabh Pant’s availability for June's T20 World Cup.

The India wicketkeeper has been out of action since December 2022 after sustaining multiple injuries, including one to his right knee which required reconstruction surgery, in a car crash.

However, according to BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, Pant remains in contention for selection for the T20 World Cup "if he can keep [wicket]".

"He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon," Shah told PTI. "If he can play the T20 World Cup, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play the World Cup. Let's see how he does in the IPL."

Pant is expected to return to action during the 2024 IPL, although Delhi Capitals have indicated he will play the first half of the tournament as a specialist batter.

"First seven games we are going to play him only as a batter and depending on how his body reacts, we will take a call for the rest of the IPL," franchise co-owner, Parth Jindal, told ESPNcricinfo in February.

Over the course of his career, Pant has played 179 T20s, scoring over 4,000 runs at a strike rate of 144.84. In 66 T20Is for India, he has scored just shy of 1,000 runs, including three half-centuries.

Shah also addressed a number of India's other injury concerns, including Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from ankle surgery. He has already been ruled out of the IPL and is expected to miss the T20 World Cup, with Shah stating he is "likely" to return against Bangladesh in September.

KL Rahul, meanwhile, missed four of India's five Tests against England with a quadriceps issue and is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy.
