Who's involved?

Aaron Finch captains his side in their first T20 outing since they were victorious in last year's World Cup, and he will want for his side to pick up where they left off. The Aussie skipper hit 37 from 23 balls against Sri Lanka during the tournament, and will want to keep up his good form against them.

Ben McDermott returns to the Australia T20 side for the first time since being omitted from their World Cup squad. The keeper-batsman had a tremendous Big Bash campaign, when he hit 583 runs, making centuries in back-to-back games.

Josh Hazlewood returns to the Australia side, after he played just one Test in the recent Ashes success.

There are no places for World Cup final hero Mitch Marsh or David Warner, as they prepare for the upcoming Pakistan series. Andrew McDonald is to take charge following Justin Langer's resignation.

Dasun Shanuka continues as Sri Lanka captain, a role he has fulfilled since the summer of 2021. His personal form has risen since he has led the side, with his batting average increasing as captain, a trend he would like to see continue.

T20I best-ranked bowler Wanindu Hasaranga makes the squad, to nobody's surprise. The 24-year-old has taken 52 wickets in 31 innings in international T20 cricket, at an average of just 13.71.

Danushka Gunathilaka is included in a Sri Lanka squad for the first time since breaking Covid protocols in England, leading to his suspension. He has only faced Australia twice in T20I cricket.

Nuwan Thushara, Janith Liyanage and Kamil Mishara all make Sri Lanka T20I squads for the first time, so they will be eager to make an impression on the international stage.

Kusal Mendis, also returning after a suspension for breaching Covid rules, tested positive for the novel coronavirus three days before the first fixture and was placed in isolation.

Australia squad: Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Josh Inglis, Ben McDermott, Glenn Maxwell, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa.

Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Charith Asalanka, Avishka Fernando, Pathum Nissanka, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Chamika Karunaratne, Janith Liyanage, Kamil Mishara, Ramesh Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Nuwan Thushara, Dushmantha Chameera, Binura Fernando, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, Praveen Jayawickrama, Shiran Fernando
