India have rested Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth Test of the five-match series at Ranchi.

The fast bowler, who is the leading wicket-taker in the series with 17 in the first three Tests, has been given a break.

Mukesh Kumar, who was part of the Indian side that levelled the series at Visakhapatnam, returns to the squad, with the uncapped Akash Deep also an option to replace Bumrah.

"The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times," read a BCCI statement.

Mohammed Siraj will lead India's seam attack, with his partners dependent on the surface. Should it be a dry pitch likely to take spin, Axar Patel could be recalled instead, with Siraj the lone seamer.

KL Rahul has once again been ruled out, with Rajat Patidar and Devdutt Padikkal retained. Virat Kohli, who is missing the series for personal reasons, announced the birth of his son on Tuesday.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep
