Iyer was fielding at extra cover when he dived to stop a strong drive from Jonny Bairstow
India batsman Shreyas Iyer was the second player to be forced off the field in pain after landing awkwardly on his shoulder in the first ODI at Pune, following England’s Sam Billings in the first innings.
Iyer was fielding at extra cover when he dived to stop a strong drive from Jonny Bairstow. He was noticeably in pain as he attempted to get back to his feet and, while he was able to walk off the ground, he was in obvious discomfort.
Earlier in proceedings, Billings had been patrolling the boundary when he dived in an attempt to prevent a four.
It was later confirmed that he had "sprained his collar bone joint" and that the concern was not related to the shoulder injury he suffered in 2019 while playing for Kent against Glamorgan, which ultimately ruled him out of contention for the last World Cup.
An ECB statement added: "It's sore, he's currently receiving treatment and we are hopeful he will be able to bat later."
