England remain on course to tour India in early 2021, prior to the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.

A letter from BCCI president to Sourav Ganguly states that the men's team are still planning to tour Australia before the end of the year before welcoming England.

But there are no concrete plans for the India women's team.

“The senior Indian men's team will travel to Australia for its series starting in December this year and will come back to the country for a series against England starting from February next year," wrote Ganguly in a correspondence seen by ESPNCricinfo.

“This will be followed by IPL 2021 in April. The tours of the senior Indian women's teams are also under discussion, and more details will be shared shortly.”

India are due in Australia for four Tests and three one-day internationals from November. England then travel to the sub-continent for a five-Test series in the New Year, though a window could also be created for three ODIs and a trio T20s, which were originally scheduled for September and October 2020.

As previously announced by the ICC, the letter also confirmed that India will be hosting both the T20 World Cup next year and the 50-Over World Cup in 2023.

The men's T20 World Cup in Australia which has been postponed from October and November has been moved to 2022.

This year's delayed IPL is scheduled to get underway on September 19 but will be played exclusively in the United Arab Emirates due to the coronavirus pandemic. The women's T20 Challenge will also be played in the UAE from November 1.

United States and Brazil are the only nations to have reported more cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak began than India, with close to three million positives detected.
