Reifer, playing for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, was run out despite most of his bat passing the whitewashed crease line at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium
Sometimes run outs are comical. Sometimes they are marginal. And sometimes they are just plain unnecessary.
The ILT20 was the scene for an example of the latter on Saturday (January 21), as Raymon Reifer endured a moment he'll want to forget in a hurry.
Reifer, playing for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, was run out despite most of his bat passing the whitewashed crease line at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. The problem for the West Indies batsman? He hadn't grounded any of them.
"That needs a parental guidance certificate. It's just appalling," David Gower remarked on commentary. "If you're a man getting your first chance in the tournament, don't run yourself out. That is entirely avoidable.
"I love these moments of supreme carelessness."
And what made it even worse for Reifer? His cousin Leslie was the TV umpire who had to give him out.
