Fixture: Sunrisers v South East Stars

Venue: Cloudfm County Ground, Chelmsford

Dates: Saturday, May 29, 2021

Start time: 10.30am

What's the lowdown?

A local derby between two of the less experienced sides in the competition. Last year, Sunrisers lost all six games, including both fixtures against South East Stars.

Stars, on the other hand, have changed head coach since then; Jon Batty has moved on to lead Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, with Johann Myburgh replacing him as the man in charge alongside director of cricket Richard Bedbrook and captain Tash Farrant.

Who should I watch out for?

It is hard to look beyond Farrant for South East Stars - her first regional appearance since earning an England recall over the winter. However, watch out for Alice Capsey, the hugely talented teenager for whom this season could be an exciting time.

From a Sunrisers perspective, another teenager - Grace Scrivens - is one to look out for, while much will be anticipated of captain Amara Carr, who will also keep wicket for Trevor Griffin's side.

Both sides have benefited from the county T20 competition that preceded the beginning of the Heyhoe Flint Trophy, giving players match practice ahead of the regional summer.

What's the team news?

South East Stars squad: Tash Farrant, Bryony Smith, Alice Capsey, Freya Davies, Alice Davidson-Richards, Grace Gibbs, Phoebe Franklin, Kirstie White, Aylish Cranstone, Sophia Dunkley, Rhianna Southby, Emma Jones, Kalea Moore, Dani Gregory

Prediction?

South East Stars won last year when these two sides met, and the inclusion of several players with England caps and international aspirations should give them the edge against Griffin's side on Saturday.
