You can't blame the players. Professional sport is a fleeting thing. You retire comparatively young with few transferable skills if your career avoids serious injury, which you are always susceptible to. Make hay whilst the sun shines would be looked on as a virtue in many professions, where head hunting and selling yourself to the highest bidder is merely seen as furthering your career. Lambasting them for being unpatriotic is unrealistic. They are entertainers and as such want to be out there as much as possible performing on the big stage, which you get more of in the franchise game than on the comparatively low key international circuit.
