Talent Cricket Young Player of the Month: Arthur Butterworth

The allrounder from Norfolk has been proving that minor counties are still producing the next generation of cricketers

September's Young Player of the Month is proof that that Minor Counties – soon to be renamed National Counties – are still thriving.

Arthur Butterworth struck a magnificent 110 before being retired for Norfolk U10 against Huntingdonshire U10.

Coming in at No.3 it was a true captain's innings as he led his Norfolk side to an imposing 278 from 35 overs. The 10-year-old then oversaw his side to a 227-run victory.

Butterworth bowls too, taking his first five-wicket haul against Buckinghamshire earlier this summer and has been leg-spinning for club, school and county since the age of six.

He has been representing the Gresham's School U11 side since he was eight and has evolved within the team from leg-spinning No.11 to top order allrounder.

Butterworth's father, Anthony, has local ambitions for his son. "My hope for Arthur is for him to play in the 1st XI at Horsford who are in the East Anglia Premier Division. I just want him to play at a higher standard than I did!"
