A Jersey cricket club have been handed a 10-point deduction for refusing to complete a match after disagreeing with an LBW decision.

Internationals Royals CC's walked out of their clash with St Ouen Springfield at Les Quennevais after questioning an umpiring call, on August 16.

The officials adjudged that the visitors had forfeited the fixture and awarded victory to St Quen, but further action has since been taken.

A message on Twitter via the St Ouen account read: "Unbelievable scenes at LQ1. Lbw decision disputed by Royals who have now walked off and refused to play. Game forfeited and awarded to SOS by the umpires!"

Royals CC have since been hit with a deduction of 10 points for their actions by the Jersey Cricket Board. It is understood it is the first time a team have walked off in Jersey's cricket history.

JCB chief-executive Craig Meredith told Bailiwick Express: "I can confirm that disciplinary action has been taken against the club and all players involved in accordance with the Cricket Code of Conduct, Spirit of Cricket and our own Disciplinary Procedure.

"This action has seen Royals being deducted 10 points from their league total."

Despite the sanction, Royals remain second in Division Two.
