The Lord's Taverners hosted the annual National Table Cricket Finals at Lord's which was won by Ralph Thoresby School. 12 teams took part in the day, whittled down from 450 who entered the regional rounds.

Needing one off the final ball to win, the Leeds-based school hit the run required to retain the title that they won last year.

Thanks to the support of People's Postcode Lottery and Ford who support the competition, the competition is now in its 21st year with nearly 8,000 youngsters and more than 450 schools regularly taking part in the sport.

Table Cricket is an adapted version of cricket created by the Lord's Taverners that aims to give young disabled people the chance to participate in cricket.

Played using a small bat on a table tennis table, bowlers roll the ball down a ramp and batters must find the scoring zones in the field to score runs. Two types of ball can be used, one that rolls in a straight line or a weighted ball that swings.

There are six players in a team, and every player bats and bowls for one over.

Radio 1 DJ Greg James is a Table Cricket and Lord’s Taverners ambassador. He said on the day, "It's a brilliant event that does amazing things for disadvantaged and disabled kids. This event has grown and grown and gives kids the opportunity to make friends, have fun and play cricket.

"The whole point of cricket is participation, hanging out with your mates, learning a skill and bringing people together, and that is exactly what Table Cricket does for a section of society who can often feel isolated.

"You need a particular set of skills to play Table Cricket, it promotes teamwork, helps you learn to deal with winning and losing, and it encourages all kids to be part of a sport that is for everyone.

"That is why I support the Lord's Taverners because cricket is for everyone and they give kids a sport to be proud of where they might have felt left out before."
