Important information for cricket clubs on the return of recreational cricket
As recreational cricket continues to make its comeback, clubs must ensure they are fully protected and that their insurance cover is complete and up to date.
Here, ExtraCover Insurance run through the confirmation of cover for all of their policyholders who insure the liability for the playing of cricket.
"With regards to the liability section and the opening up of your clubs, including net sessions and organising league and/or friendly fixtures the following would apply," the Yorkshire-based insurance broker explains.
"In respect of the cover provided by the ExtraCover Insurance Policy for Cricket Clubs. Under Section 3 – Liabilities of the Policy, the insurer will indemnify the insured against legal liability to pay compensation and claimants’ costs and expenses in respect of injury sustained by any person in connection with the business and caused within the territorial limits during the period of insurance.
"The definition of injury under both the employers and the public and products liability cover includes bodily injury, death, disease, illness, mental injury, mental anguish or nervous shock."

Clubs that are covered will have peace of mind but it is important to note that clubs are required to be maintain caution and implement preventative measures, as the confirmation of cover continues to explain.
"It is a condition under the policy that the insured should take all reasonable precautions to prevent accidents and any injury, or damage and shall take all reasonable steps to observe and comply with statutory or local authority laws, obligations and requirements.
"Therefore if someone contracts an illness and the insured has taken all reasonable precautions to prevent this and they are found legally liability as a result of a claim against them then if they have taken all reasonable precautions then the policy would operate.
"Any procedures over and above the government and ECB guidelines should be documented."
