James Bracey has been appointed vice-captain of Gloucestershire for the 2021 County Championship season.

The 23-year old wicketkeeper-batsman made his First-Class debut for the county against Sussex in 2016 and has scored 2,906 runs and taken 49 catches in 39 appearances. He recently signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the 2023 season.

Bracey, who will work alongside club captain Chris Dent in 2021, is on the fringe of the England set-up and was named as a reserve for their recent Test series against India.

He made just one red-ball appearance in last season’s Bob Willis Trophy, scoring four runs.

Commenting on becoming vice-captain, Bracey said: "It’s a huge honour to have been offered a leadership role within the four-day side this year. It’s been brilliantly led by Denty these past few seasons and with an exciting squad coming together I’m delighted to be vice-captain.

"Leadership is definitely something I’m keen to develop amongst the rest of my game and I’m looking forward to offering what I can to the success of the group this summer."

Meanwhile, club  captain, Chris Dent, said: "Bracey stood out as the perfect man for the vice-captaincy role, he has a great cricketing brain, is extremely professional and is in a great space with his own game."
