Sunil Ambris has made an inauspicious start to life in the Test match arena

He's done it again.

West Indies batsman Sunil Ambris has only played two Test matches for his country but he's already making waves around the international game... for reasons not entirely of his own liking.

On his debut against New Zealand in Wellington, Ambris gained the unwanted record of treading on his own stumps first ball - one of just six batsmen to have been dismissed for a golden duck in that fashion in Test history and the first to do so on debut.

He then got off the mark in his second innings with a six - the sixth man to ever achieve that feat on his first appearance - and the tide appeared to be changing.

Fast forward to this week's second Test at Seddon Park, however, and Ambris was back to square one.

Again, the 24-year-old was out hit-wicket. Again, it came as a result of a back-foot clip off the hips. Again, his heel pressed against the base of his own stumps, causing the bails to fall.

No wonder the man from St Vincent & The Grenadines looked so frustrated when he realised what had happened.

Ambris threw his arms up in the air in despair as bowler Trent Boult grinned an embarrassed grin.

Still, at least Ambris has some way to go before he gets near the Test record for the number of times a batsman has been dismissed hit wicket.

Though he joins a cluster of 10 others on two times out, he is shy of the three recorded by Mohinder Amarnath.

And it would take something exceptional for Ambris to match the five times legendary English batsman Denis Compton knocked his own pegs over.
