Kieron Pollard joins six sixes club... two overs after Akila Dananjaya claims hat-trick

Thisara Perera became the ninth player to hit six sixes in a single over as the Sri Lanka batsman created history during the SLC Major Clubs Limited Overs Tournament on Sunday (March 28).

The 31-year-old achieved the feat for Army Sports Club during their Group A clash with Bloomfield.

Perera dispatched Dilhan Cooray over the rope six times in a row, becoming the first Sri Lankan to do so.

Gentle offspinner Cooray had little answer to the attack, bowling three full tosses and even switching from over to round the wicket in an effort to change his fortunes.

But the onslaught continued and allowed Perera to hit the second-fastest List A half-century in history, with his unbeaten 52 coming off just 13 deliveries.

Kaushalya Weeraratne's 12-ball effort for Ranagan CC against Kurunegala Youth CC in 2005 remains the performance to beat.

Despite the showing, it was not enough to inspire victory for Army Sports Club, who made 318 for 3 in a reduced 41-overs-a-side match.

In reply, Bloomfield were reduced to 73 for 6 in 17 overs when the game was abandoned.

Just eight other players have struck six sixes in a single over. Garry Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Vuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley, Hazratullah Zazai, Leo Carter and Kieron Pollard are among the list.

Aptly, Perera was involved the last time the performance was matched when Pollard whacked six maximums during West Indies' four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Antigua earlier this month.
