Sunrisers Hyderabad have broken the record for the highest team total in the Indian Premier League.

Pat Cummins' side piled on 277 for 3 during their group fixture against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad, surpassing Royal Challengers Bengaluru's previous benchmark of 263 for 5, which they posted against Pune Warriors in 2013.

South Africa international Heinrich Klaasen was unbeaten on 80 off 34 deliveries while there were also half-centuries for Travis Head (62 off 24) and Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23), who shared a 68-run second-wicket stand off just 23 balls. Sharma also broke the record for the fastest fifty for the franchise, requiring just 16 balls.

In total, Sunrisers' batters scored 19 fours and 18 sixes, including seven sixes apiece for Sharma and Klaasen.

Jasprit Bumrah (0 for 36) was the only Mumbai Indians bowler to maintain an economy below 10. Kwena Maphaka leaked 66 runs from his four overs – the joint-third most expensive spell in IPL history.

Sunrisers' total is also the fourth highest in T20 cricket and the highest in a non-international fixture, overtaking Punjab's 275 for 6, which they posted against Andhra in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The highest total in T20 cricket currently belongs to Nepal, who amassed 314 for 3 against Mongolia during an Asian Games group match last September.
