Sir Richard Hadlee will undergo cancer surgery for a second time this year after the discovery of the disease in his liver.

Hadlee had a tumour, caused by bowel cancer, removed earlier this year but will now require another operation, according to a statement released by his wife Lady Dianne Hadlee via New Zealand Cricketer

"This week, Richard will undergo further surgery after secondary cancer was discovered in his liver," the statement read.

"Medical advice is that it's still at a very early stage and is operable.

"Once he has recovered from the operation, Richard will undergo further chemotherapy treatment.

"As with the first statement released on this matter, we disclose this information solely in the interests of transparency, and to avoid speculation and gossip.

"We would again ask that people respect our request for privacy."
