SHARMA SETS SIGHTS ON ONE-DAY TRIPLE CENTURY

The only man to have made two ODI double tons is thinking even bigger

Rohit Sharma is targeting a one-day international triple century after being constantly asked when he will reach the landmark by fans.

Sharma is the only man in world cricket with two ODI double tons to his name, having hit 209 against Australia in 2013 and 264 against Sri Lanka the following year.

India supporters still want more from the batsman, however, and he has succumbed to the pressure - and promised to try to reach the ridiculous goal.

"After the match, our coach Duncan Fletcher told me that I could have easily scored a 300 if not for the slow start I had," Sharma told Breakfast with Champions, reflecting on his 173-ball blitzkrieg against the Sri Lankans at Eden Gardens.

"I asked him: 'Duncan, Is 264 less for you?'.

"Now, whenever I go out to bat, people want a 300 from me. Whenever I field in the deep, at the airport, people keep asking me 'when are you going to score 300?'.

"Is scoring 300 like just pick up something and eating it? In India, that is the expectation. That shows India as a country will never stop expecting more from you.

"It is completely acceptable because that's what you want and you try to live up to the expectation all the time. Having said that, I will try (to score 300)."

Sharma has hit two of just six doubles ever made in international 50-over cricket, while his 264 now sits 27 runs clear of its nearest rival - Martin Guptill's unbeaten 237 for New Zealand against Wellington in 2015.

Two other Indians have achieved the feat - Sachin Tendulkar was the first to do so, against South Africa in 2010, while Virender Sehwag followed against West Indies the next year.

The exclusive group is rounded off by Chrs Gayle, who pummeled the Zimbabwe attack for 215 in Canberra in 2015.
