Kevin Pietersen says England have missed a trick by not being more attacking against Nathan Lyon.

Pietersen admitted the Test was ’50/50’ after day one but suggests England could have put themselves in control if they had taken a few more risks against the spinner.

“Nathan Lyon shouldn’t bowl 24 overs for 40 runs on day one of a Test match" said KP.

“I think that they [England] might have missed a trick a there. I would have preferred Lyon’s figures to have been 3 for 70, 3 for 80 on day one of a Test match not 0 for 40.

“You get defined  as a player when you’re playing Ashes cricket and you get defined as a player with the risks that you take.

“If you’re going to bat at the top order you have to take those risks. So when you want to be defined as a player and you want to stand out. You’ve got to be known to be that kind of player that will go and take those risks.”
