The two teams will meet in Sharjah in preparation for World Cup qualifiers
Ireland will play three one-day internationals against Afghanistan in Sharjah next month.
The three day-night encounters will take place on December 5, 7 and 10 and come immediately after the country's Intercontinental Cup matches against Scotland in Dubai.
Both Ireland and Afghanistan are in need of extra matches as they prepare for the World Cup qualification tournament in March, where the final two sides for the 2019 competition will be decided.
Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom said the teams will “relish the clash not just as two of the sport’s closest rivals, and as its two newest Test nations but, most obviously at this point, as two teams that are preparing for the ICC World Cup qualifier.
"I am sure players and fans can’t wait.”
His Afghan Cricket Board counterpart Shafiqullah Stanikzai said the series will be “an excellent opportunity for both Afghanistan and Ireland to face each other for competitive cricket after obtaining the full member status of the International Cricket Council on the same day”.
