The Victorians are one of seven teams involved in 2023. Malan said in a short video, posted to Twitter, that he was encouraged by an "exciting" Comilla squad.

"I can't wait to get started," he said.

Malan is also listed in the Sharjah Warriors squad for the UAE's new franchise competition, the International League T20, which is scheduled to get under way on January 13, and is expected to play the first two games of the BPL campaign before leaving the squad.

He could return for the knockout stages for Comilla, should they make it that far in the competition.

Malan has had a limited amount of cricket since the conclusion of England's ODI tour of Australia in November, made up of six innings in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Comilla are due to begin their BPL campaign against Rangpur Riders on Friday (January 6).
