Unlike his countryman Steve Smith, the opening batsman is expected to return to his franchise, Sylhet Sixers, following assessment
David Warner will follow Steve Smith in flying home from the Bangladesh Premier League because of injury.
Unlike his countryman, however, the opening batsman is expected to return to his franchise, Sylhet Sixers, following assessment.
Warner has complained of pain in his right elbow and is returning to Australia to undergo testing.
A Cricket Australia spokesperson said: "David has reported some pain in his right elbow. He will return to Australia on January 21 to be assessed, but is expected to play in the remaining BPL matches until his return.
"We will have a clearer understanding of the extent of the injury once he has been assessed."
The 32-year-old, who will head back to Australia on Monday, has hit two half-centuries for Sylhet in the tournament so far.
Warner's injury is similar to that of Smith, whose elbow problem required surgery. Smith will now have to wear an arm brace for six weeks prior to a period of rehabilitation which could threaten his preparations for this year's World Cup.
