Stuart Broad is being beaten black and blue out in Australia and the Ashes series hasn't even started.

Last week the England bowler was pelted by paintballs in Townsville and, on Monday, he was struck by a golf ball while practising his putting in Brisbane.

The 31-year-old showed off the resultant bruise on social media, joking about the scale of the 'injury'.

"Warning graphic image," he wrote on Instagram.

"Golf ball bruise. If you (look) really hard you can see it."

Broad is not a popular man in Queensland, where the local Brisbane Courier Mail famously refused to use his name in reports of the 2013/14 Ashes following his refusal to walk after edging to slip the previous summer's corresponding series against Australia.

However, there was no indication of foul play on the course.

An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman told BT Sport: “Stuart was practising on the putting green when he was hit by a stray golf ball from a member.

“He is fine, and no dramas.”

The Ashes begins on Thursday, when England take on the hosts at the Gabba.
