Virat Kohli has revealed that he was once handed a letter written in blood by a fan during an event in Delhi.

The India captain is one of the most recognisable faces in his home country, with a legion of fans and a social media following in excess of 80million, and as such he is familiar with supporters treating him a little differently.

However, he admitted to being slightly frightened by the note, which was delivered to him by hand through a car window.

The topic of unwanted attention from fans came up during Kohli’s appearance on Eros Now.

“I had a letter sent to me written in blood. That was nasty,” he said. “This was quite a while back.

“I was going away in my car and I just rolled the window down to sign something and this just popped out of nowhere, I didn’t even see who threw it to me.

“The name was written and I was like ‘bloody hell’. I just gave it to the security guy. I didn’t even accept it.

“It was very scary.”

Kohli’s team-mate at Royal Challengers Bangalore, AB de Villiers, is another of cricket’s biggest names and he too had a peculiar story to tell about a mid-air meeting with a fan.

“I was on a flight in India, between IPL games, and I was sleeping with my headphones on, and I woke up with a baby on my back,” he said.

“Someone was tapping me on my shoulder and it was this guy who was about to take a selfie.

“I just smiled and gave it back to him. I had my glasses on so I think the guy might have thought that I was actually watching him and saying ‘yes, let’s go ahead’ but I was sleeping so it was weird to wake up like that.”
