Kyle Jamieson will miss the final Test of the three-match series against England after being diagnosed with a stress reaction to his lower left back.

The giant seamer was unable to bowl in England's second innings after suffering the injury while bowling on the third day. He was unable to complete his 17th over and left the field, leaving New Zealand a seamer short as England chased down 299 on the fifth afternoon.

The 27-year-old will now return home to New Zealand following the results of his MRI scan, which revealed the extent of the injury. New Zealand head coach Gary Stead estimated a rehabilitation period between four and six weeks, before a targeted return in September or October.

Blair Tickner, who was part of the Test squad during the tourists' warmup matches against Sussex and a County Select XI, has been called up as a replacement, though it seems likelier that one of spinner Ajaz Patel or left-arm seamer Neil Wagner will replace Jamieson.

"It's always sad to see players forced to leave a tour early with injury," said Stead. "Kyle had played such a big role in the first Test at Lord's and I know how disappointed he was to have had his involvement in the second Test curtailed.

"He's obviously a huge asset for us and we'll be making sure we are patient with his recovery to ensure he returns fully fit with plenty more important cricket still to come later this year."

Dane Cleaver has also been called up following a hamstring strain to Cam Fletcher, the reserve wicketkeeper to Tom Blundell. Fletcher suffered the injury while on the field as a substitute during the second Test on Monday.
