What is it?

England host New Zealand in a four-match T20 series.

What is the schedule?

August 30: 1st T20I – Seat Unique Riverside, Chester-le-Street (6pm BST)

September 1: 2nd T20I – Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester (6pm)

September 3: 3rd T20I – Edgbaston, Birmingham (2.30pm)

September 5: 4th T20I – Trent Bridge, Nottingham (6pm)

Who is in form?

This will be the first outing for England in a T20 format since their 3-0 series loss to Bangladesh in March. Coming off the back of their World Cup triumph in Australia at the end of 2022, the team were humbled in South Asia as the hosts cruised to victory in all three encounters.

Five months on, and off the back of their domestic white-ball season, England will be expecting to demonstrate why they are the world champions.

New Zealand had a tour of Pakistan in April and have just arrived from a series in the United Arab Emirates. They drew a competitive series in Pakistan and were victorious in the UAE, however they were dealt a surprise defeat in the second of the three-match series in Dubai.

Who is involved?

Jos Buttler will lead an England team that has a mix of experience and youth to call upon.

Alongside the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingston there is a potential debutants. Surrey fast bowler Gus Atkinson receives a first callup.

Hampshire quick John Turner, also uncapped, had initially made the squad but has dropped out through injury, with Brydon Carse taking his place. Josh Tongue was replaced by Chris Jordan.

This could prove to be a pivotal series for Harry Brook, who was dropped from the initial ODI World Cup squad to make way for the returning Ben Stokes. Buttler has confirmed that Brook is still in contention for a spot and the batsman will be looking to give his captain a selection headache.

New Zealand captain Tim Southee has a plethora of stars to call upon, including many that have enjoyed a successful season in the T20 Blast and The Hundred.

The likes of Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips will look to use their successful spells in English conditions against the host nation.

There is also a callup for fast bowler Kyle Jamieson who, prior to this month's series in the UAE, had not featured since England's tour of New Zealand at the start of the year due to injury.

Jamieson came through the UAE series without a hiccup, taking 3 wickets before taking another 3 in the kiwi’s warm up game against Worcestershire on Friday (Aug 25).
