Colin de Grandhomme faces being ruled out for the remainder of New Zealand's tour of England after being withdrawn from the first Test at Lord's.

The Kiwi allrounder has suffered a suspect tear to his right plantar fascia while bowling during the afternoon session on day three and will play no further part in the match.

De Grandhomme will have an MRI scan on Sunday (June 5) to determine the full extent of the damage and whether he will recover in time to play in the remaining two Tests.

The series moves to Trent Bridge for the second Test on June 10-14 before the concluding match at Headingley on June 23-27.

It leaves the Black Caps a bowler down as they attempt to take England's final five second-innings wickets on day four, with the hosts needing another 61 runs to reach their 277 target.

Though not a prolific wicket-taker - he had 48 scalps at 33.08 coming into the game - De Grandhomme's reliable medium pace had allowed captain Kane Williamson to rotate his premier quicks Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson, who were forced to bowl 59 overs between them on Saturday (June 4)

The problem occurred five deliveries into the 31st over of England's chase, as the 35-year-old pulled up in his delivery stride.

Following a brief conversation with Williamson, he left the field and did not reappear for the remainder of the day.

It drew a line under a wretched day for the Zimbabwean who earlier in the day had been run-out for a golden duck and bowled Ben Stokes off a no-ball.

It represented the latest fitness problem in a match laden with injury issues.

England lost Jack Leach to a concussion and were forced to call up debutant Matt Parkinson on day one of the Test, while Matthew Potts has suffered from a bout of cramp.
