Joe Root, as he so often does, underpinned England's hopes in the fourth innings run chase against India in the fifth Test at the Kia Oval.

When he reached his 39th Test century, he produced a headband from his pocket and wore it to commemorate his former batting coach and mentor Graham Thrope.
