Tymal Mills has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup with a right thigh strain.

The 29-year-old pulled up while bowling during the 14th over of England’s 26-run victory over Sri Lanka on Monday, November 1, and left the field shortly afterwards. He did not return to complete the match, with Sam Billings replacing him in the field.

A scan on Tuesday evening confirmed the extent of his injury.

Surrey fast bowler Reece Topley, who travelled to the UAE as one of England’s three reserve players, will replace Mills in the 15-strong squad.

Mills had been ever present for England in the UAE, taking seven wickets in 13.3 overs and bowling two or three overs at the death. It is the latest setback for the Sussex bowler, who has been plagued by back injuries throughout his career.

England’s next match is against South Africa in Sharjah on Saturday, November 6.
