Stuart Broad has been reprimanded by the ICC for breaching the governing body's code of conduct during the fourth Test against South Africa.

The England bowler was cited by the match officials following a verbal altercation with Faf du Plessis on the fourth day of the game in Johannesburg.

Broad was found to have been in breach of article 2.3 of the code, which relates to "use of an audible obscenity during an international match", and has been docked 15 per cent of his match fee.

The seamer has also been handed a demerit point for his actions.

Broad has now accrued two demerit points over a 24-month period. Should he reach four points, he would incur and automatic suspension.

Players from both sides have been routinely hauled in front of match referee Andy Pycroft over the course of the four-match series, which England won 3-1.

Kagiso Rabada, Jos Buttler, Vernon Philander and Ben Stokes have all been hit with punishments for various offences.

Du Plessis, meanwhile, has escaped sanction after coming into physical contact with Buttler on Monday.

The South African captain laid his shoulder into the England wicketkeeper during the same incident for which Broad was punished but the contact was deemed to be accidental by the onfield umpires.
