England will be without Ben Stokes in the second Test

Ben Stokes misses England's second Test against Pakistan at Headingley with a hamstring problem.

The allrounder, who complained of stiffness during practice on Wednesday, underwent a scan on the area on Thursday.

It showed that Stokes has sustained a tear in his left hamstring, meaning he was not fit enough to feature in the England XI.

The injury brings into question his availability for the upcoming one-day international series against Australia, which are due to begin at the Kia Oval on June 13.

The second Test is the 11th Stokes has missed out of a possible 29 in recent months, via a combination of injuries and suspension.

Sam Curran makes his debut

Sam Curran, the Surrey youngster who was called into the squad as cover on Wednesday, will make his debut in Stokes's place.

Curran, 19, was presented with his first Test cap by Graham Thorpe prior to the start of play on Friday. He is the seventh youngest player to make his England Test debut and the first left-arm seamer to play for the side since Ryan Sidebottom in 2010.

Chris Woakes is reportedly the second change to the side, with Mark Wood missing out. Woakes will bat at No.7, with Jos Buttler moving up to No.6 in the absence of Stokes. Keaton Jennings opens with Alastair Cook after replacing Mark Stoneman in the squad.

England are seeking to level the two-match series in Leeds, having lost the first Test by nine wickets at Lord's last week.
