Ireland

William Porterfield (17): Looked nervous from the outset with pressure on his captaincy. Disgracefully only walked after flick down the legside off Liam Plunkett was referred. Galvanise his team in the field but lakced ideas when the going got tough. 5

Paul Stirling (33): Top scored for the hosts but will be upset with his dismissal, failing to hit over the infield and straight to Jofra Archer. 4

Andy Balbirnie (29): One boundary from 44 balls tells its own story. As does his dismissal, which saw him lose concentration, allowing Ben Foakes to take full advantage. 5

Lorcan Tucker (7): Probably done by the pitch as much as anything when he chipped straight to Eoin Morgan. 4

Kevin O'Brien (4): Arrived at the crease amid plenty of fanfare but was unable to roll back the years, carving to Joe Denly. 4

Gary Wilson (8): An inconsequential display with the bat but took two exquisite catches behind the stumps to get rid of Malan and Morgan. 6

It was not O'Brien's day - eight years on from his match-winning century against England

George Dockrell (24 & 0-27): Succumbed to Plunkett but more than made up for it with a stunning catch to get rid of the dangerous Vince. 6

Mark Adair (32 & 0-48): Gave the Irish innings the acceleration it needed in the middle overs. Two sixes off Tom Curran were mighty. 6

Tim Murtagh (12 & 1-29): Got the prized wicket of Joe Root with one which nipped back and trapped the Test skipper. Remains a wily old fox at this level. 7

Josh Little (9 & 4-45): Roughed up England's batting line-up with some fierce bowling. Took four wickets but the stand-out moment was the dismissal of Morgan, with one which blew away the skipper. 8

Boyd Rankin (5 & 1-38): Not the lean seamer he once was. Pace was calm and threat rare. Coming to the end of his career at this level. 4

England

James Vince (18): Missed the opportunity to cement his place at the top of the order but little he could do about Dockrell's stunning grab 5

Dawid Malan (24): Suffered a hamstring injury early on and never fully recovered. Slash behind off Little was poor. 5

Joe Root (7): Trapped by a fine delivery from Murtagh. Not really in the game. 4

Eoin Morgan (0): Will have piqued the interest of England's World Cup rivals with the manner of his dismissal. Rotation of bowlers was decent. 4

Joe Denly (8 & 1-24): Another who passed up what could be a rare opportunity to stamp his mark on the team. Naturally, looks very short of cricket. 5

Malan failed to give his World Cup hopes a major boost

Ben Foakes (61*): Produced one of the stand-out moments of the Ireland innings with a moment of brilliance. Resilient with the bat when England needed him most. 8

David Willey (20 & 0-26): With Plunkett and Curran in amongst the wickets, will be concerned about his play. Picked out Adair unnecessarily with the bat. Needs a haircut. 6

Tom Curran (47* & 3-35): The stand-out performer with the ball which included the wickets of Stirling and O'Brien. Showed patience with the bat, giving Foakes plenty of the strike, and kept his cool at the end. 7

Adil Rashid (1-27): Didn't get his rewards with the ball but he is very much a marked man in the middle overs. 5

Liam Plunkett (DNB & 4-35): Continues to show signs of improvement but figures flattered his contribution. 6

Jofra Archer (DNB & 1-40): Bowled arguably the outstanding ball of the day to get rid of the dangerous Adair. Expensive, but showed his class. 6
