ENGLAND

Jason Roy (87): A strange mix of the formidable and the flimsy. Three of the best shots you are likely to see all summer, and several at the other end of the spectrum. Furious with himself for looping a catch to mid-on. 7.5

Jonny Bairstow (51): The less aggressive of the two openers on the day, rotating the strike nicely and easing England through a relatively sluggish start. Perished on the boundary on the pull. His second ODI fifty in three innings. 7

Joe Root (40): A typical Root ODI innings kept the scoreboard ticking, and he barely looked in trouble until a very atypical Root ODI dismissal, caught low at midwicket on the pull. 6

Eoin Morgan (71*): In most other sides, this innings would have been absolutely top-of-the-range, coming as it did in 48 deliveries at the death. Instead, it was merely the support act. Like the Stones warming up for the Beatles. 8

Ben Stokes (DNB & 0-15): Not much to do with bat and ball. Very safe hands in the deep. 5

Jos Buttler (110*): Another magnificent knock from a batsman who, if it is even possible, seems to be seeing the ball better than he ever has before. A 360-degree tour de force which brought shrugs and sighs out of the Pakistan bowling attack. Extraordinary. 9.5

Moeen Ali (DNB & 1-66): On a pitch that didn’t offer much for any of the spinners, the allrounder can count going for just over a run a ball as a reasonable day’s work. 6

Chris Woakes (DNB & 1-72): Expensive and loose with the ball. With Mark Wood and Jofra Archer very real new-ball options, this was not the best case for selection. A very good final over. 3.5

David Willey (DNB & 2-57): The most economical of all England’s bowlers and particularly good during his final spell at the death with 2-17 in three overs with Pakistan’s batsmen going ballistic around him. A drop at long-on. 8

Adil Rashid (DNB & 1-81): Not the legspinner's best afternoon on a surface which was not friendly do any of the bowlers on show. 4.5

Liam Plunkett (DNB & 1-56): Pace a little down. Appeared to pick up a niggle near the end. 5

PAKISTAN

Fakhar Zaman (139): A masterful effort from the opener to complete a fourth ODI ton - his second in England. Very strong on the legside, with a touch of genius via a series of ramps against the seamers. 9.5

Imam-ul-Haq (35): Fluent enough before offering a return catch to Moeen. Laid a good foundation with Zaman. 6

Babar Azam (55): A useful innings but Pakistan needed their No.3 to hang around when Zaman went. Instead he flopped a catch back to Rashid. 7

Haris Sohail (14 & 0-16): Three filler overs with the ball, caught in the deep trying to keep the run rate ticking in the chase. 5

Asif Ali (51): An energetic knock which gave his side a real chance at the death. Must have made the selectors take notice ahead of the World Cup. 7.5

Sarfraz Ahmed (41*): Tried to play the captain's cameo with the bat but ran out of partners. 6.5

Faheem Ashraf (0-69 & 3): The allrounder is going through a rotten spell in ODIs but this was not an awful display. Smoked on more than one occasion by ridiculous shots by Roy. 5

Imad Wasim (8 & 0-63): By far the more disciplined of the two Pakistani spinners, even if he ultimately went wicketless. 6

Hasan Ali (1-81 & 4*): Another who found the Buttler conundrum tough to solve. Earlier caused Roy problems, eventually getting rid of him with a short ball which stuck in the pitch. 4.5

Yasir Shah (1-60): Seven pretty miserable overs from the legspinner, who dragged down far too often and offered easy runscoring opportunities for England’s batsmen. 3

Shaheen Afridi (1-80): Found good pace, only to be posted to all parts by Buttler and Morgan. This was a steep learning curve for the youngster. 4.5
