Morgan says Mills remains on England's radar despite tough Big Bash

Tymal Mills has not been forgotten about by England despite being left out of their Tri Series squad after a difficult Big Bash, according to captain Eoin Morgan.

Mills, the pace bowler who only plays in T20 cricket as he manages a back injury, has won four caps for his country since making his international debut in the shortest format against Sri Lanka in Southampton in 2016.

However, he has not pulled on an England shirt since February on last year and, following a Big Bash tournament in which he conceded more runs (389) than any other player in the competition, he did not make the 16-man party for the games against Australia and New Zealand this month.

Mills has been reassured that he remains on the radar of the national set-up despite a tough few months, but Morgan has encouraged him to return to his best form as soon as possible.

"He's gone through a tough couple of months, which everybody can go through," said the England skipper.

"The way he comes back from the sort of form he's in, or the luck that he's running at the moment, will determine how he goes over the next few years."

England face a minimum of four T20 matches in the Tri Series tournament but feel Mills would be best suited playing more games domestically at present as he builds towards the next World Cup in 2020.

"We certainly see him as a guy who can gain a huge amount of experience playing in tournaments around the world," said Morgan.

"Due to his fitness background, we probably wouldn't consider him until a World Cup year - pulling him out of a Big Bash just for a tri-series.

"We feel like getting a long string of games together and having a set plan could be better than travelling more with us, maybe playing or not playing.

"We feel him committing to one side, playing and doing his thing on the road is the best option at the moment.

"I haven't spoken to him but that was communicated to him through (national selector) Jimmy Whitaker quite a while ago, maybe in the summer."

Mills went unsold at the recent Indian Premier League auction but is set to join Karachi Kings after being recruited in the second round of the Pakistan Super League draft.
