The redevelopment of the Compton and Edrich stands at Lord’s is set to go ahead after the plans were approved by Westminster City Council.
The existing stands will be completely removed, with two new three-tier stands being built in their stead, raising the capacity by 2,500.
This will take the capacity of the stadium over 30,000, with work on the plans drawn up by Wilkinson Eyre scheduled to begin in August.
The intention is for the new stands to be fully completed by 2021, with seating available by the 2020 season.

The new stands will take the stadium's capacity over 30,000
The cost of the redevelopment will be £50m, and the final hurdle it needs to get past is the Marylebone Cricket Club AGM where members will be asked to sign-off on the plans.
MCC chief executive Guy Lavender said: "We are excited to be commencing another transformational development at Lord's, and by raising the capacity to 31,000 we will be able to welcome more spectators to enjoy matches at the largest cricket ground in the country, here at the Home of Cricket.
"The redevelopment will be an outstanding addition delivering world-class facilities, ensuring that Lord’s remains the finest ground in the world to watch, and play cricket."
