Anderson did not bowl in the afternoon session on day five in Cape Town and repeatedly left the field of play, as the tourists saw off South Africa by 189 runs to draw level in the series
Jimmy Anderson is to undergo a scan after suffering from discomfort in his side during the final day of England's Test victory in Cape Town.
Anderson did not bowl in the afternoon session and repeatedly left the field of play, as the tourists saw off South Africa by 189 runs to draw level in the series.
The Lancashire seamer spent five months on the sidelines in 2019 as he recovered from a repetitive calf injury and England will hope the current problem is not serious enough to rule him out of the third Test, which is due to begin in Port Elizabeth on January 16.
"He'll go for a scan, get some treatment and we'll see how he pulls up," captain Joe Root said.
"It's his side, but it could be just a little niggle. It could be a 24 to 48-hour thing or it could be something else.
"Until we have more information we'll just treat it as best we can and fingers crossed he's not another casualty of this tour."
