Paul Farbrace is among the names in contention to succeed Trevor Bayliss when the Australian steps down from the position next year
England assistant coach Paul Farbrace
Paul Farbrace has said he "would be thrilled" to be given the opportunity to become England coach.
Farbrace is among the names in contention to succeed Trevor Bayliss when the Australian steps down from the position next year.
Speaking ahead of the T20 against Australia at Edgbaston, for which he will take overall charge while Bayliss takes a short break, the assistant coach confirmed his interest in the position.
He told reporters: “Of course. If, next September, Andrew Strauss said, ‘we want to offer you the job as coach’, or, as has been discussed, splitting it and me looking after one of the teams, it would be so difficult to say no. I’d be thrilled.”
Earlier this week, Bayliss placed his support behind Farbrace taking over at the end of the 2019 English summer.
“Definitely. If that’s what he wants to do, then I’m all for it,” Bayliss said.
Meanwhile, Jos Buttler is set to open the batting for England at Edgbaston on Wednesday evening.
