Eoin Morgan will not be able to get a game of golf in at the Southampton Hilton course on Friday evening after suffering a small fracture of his index finger in training, but England's captain says he definitely will be able to lead his team into the World Cup next week.

Morgan scared England by withdrawing from training earlier on Friday, having taken a blow to his left hand during catching practice.

He went to hospital for an X-ray which showed that the batsman had suffered a dislocation but the injury could have been worse and, although he will miss the warm-up match against Australia on Saturday, he should be fit to start the tournament.

"Digit is the best I could have hoped," he said.

"I dropped a catch at training and dislocated it earlier and there's a very small fracture in there but good to go.

"I'm going to miss the game, unfortunately, but as regards the first game of the tournament, I should be fit to go.

"Very good news, I was delighted. I'm just disappointed I can't play golf this evening, that's the only thing."

England open their World Cup campaign against South Africa at The Oval on Thursday.

They will face Afghanistan in a warm-up game at the same venue on Monday.
