James Anderson and Mark Wood have both been rested by England for the second Test against West Indies at Emirates Old Trafford.

Ollie Robinson, the uncapped Sussex bowler, has been called into the 13-man squad, alongside Surrey's Sam Curran.

Joe Denly has been dropped entirely for the Test upon the return of captain Joe Root, who missed the four-wicket defeat at The Ageas Bowl to attend the birth of his second child.

Zak Crawley seems certain to move up to No.3 after impressing in Southampton, while Jos Buttler also keeps his place after another troubling red-ball outing.

Meanwhile, Stuart Broad, Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, Curran and Robinson will compete for three fast-bowling berths.

Confirmation of the squad had earlier been delayed as England checked on the status as their bowling attack.

England squad: Joe Root, Jofra Archer, Dominic Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Dom Sibley, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes
