Scans have revealed the 35-year-old has suffered a calf tear and is out of the remainder of the summer
England call up Saqib Mahmood as cover
Stuart Broad has been ruled out of the rest of the LV=Insurance India Test series with a calf tear.
England's second all-time leading wicket-taker will miss the matches at Lord's, Headingley, The Oval and Old Trafford.
Lancashire's Saqib Mahmood has been added to the squad as cover.
Broad suffered the injury while warming up on Tuesday (August 10) and a subsequent scan has revealed the full extent of the blow.
He joins Jofra Archer, who won't play again in 2021, and Chris Woakes on the treatment table, while James Anderson is reportedly also a doubt for the upcoming Test.
Ben Stokes is also unavailable due to having taken an indefinite break from cricket.
Moeen Ali was added to the group earlier this week, with Dom Bess have re-joined Yorkshire.
The series is square after the rain-affected Test at Trent Bridge ended in a draw.
